Are we the only living species in the universe? This question has been asked since ancient times and remains without a definitive answer despite many people believing there are alien life-forms out there and “evidence” that supports this belief. As Ellen DeGeneres once confessed,
“The only thing that scares me more than space aliens is the idea that there aren’t any space aliens. We can’t be the best that creation has to offer. I pray we’re not all there is. If so, we’re in big trouble.”

This signal was a strong narrowband radio signal detected by Ohio State University researchers on August 15, 1977. The signal bore the hallmarks of non-terrestrial and non-solar system origins.
Numerous UFO Sightings
Reports of flying objects in the night (or day) sky are not a recent phenomenon. From the third century BC there have been many accounts indicating the appearance of strange objects in the sky. Recently, plane passengers of a West Asian Airline claimed to have witnessed a disc-shaped object while flying over Iran, with the fast-moving object not resembling a plane nor a helicopter.
Emperor Theodosius Reportedly Had An Alien "Experience"
A remarkable testimony of Alien existence is an account from Byzantine Emperor Theodosius around 390 CE. The emperor described a brilliant glowing orb in the sky with a great number of other glowing orbs drawing near the larger one, almost as if they were being pulled in. Theodosius claimed the spectacle to be like a swarm of bees flying around a beekeeper until they blended together into one, becoming as bright to the eye as a double-edged sword.
The idea that Mars was traversed by a complex network of canals was first put forward in 1877 by Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli, and later popularized by astronomer Percival Lowell. Lowell made intricate drawings of what he took to be canals based on observations he made at his observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. The idea gained relatively wide acceptance until the early twentieth century, when astronomical observations improved and higher-resolution imaging revealed the “canals” to be optical illusions and geologic formations.
Scientists are trying to explain what is causing a series of mysterious signals, known as Fast Radio Bursts, which are coming from beyond the solar system. Could this be a transmission from an alien civilization?
Cloudy life on Venus
Scientists theorize that there might be life on Venus’s clouds. In spite of Venus’s hot, acidic surface; 50 kilometers up the moist atmosphere, conditions are a bit more hospitable with a temperature of 70°C and a pressure similar to Earth’s.
A team of NASA and university scientists has detected very high amounts of methane in Mars’ atmosphere, which indicates that the planet is still alive, in either a biologic or geologic sense.
Near Air Collision
Stories of near-collisions involving a cigar-shaped UFO and commercial airplanes are endless in number. Many pilots have reported that cigar or rugby ball–shaped objects have passed within a few feet of their planes’ cockpits. A recent incident involving one of Air China’s jets could be more than conjecture. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing after an unexplained occurrence ruined its cone. Was it a collision with a flying disc that came out of nowhere? Some believe this to be the case.
Evidence for the possibility of life outside our planet, could ironically be found here on earth. Life can be found in the harshest of environments, from the cold dark depths of our oceans to the aftermath of super heated volcanic lava. Scientists believe that if life could live within our planet’s harsh extremes, then life could also live within similar extremes outside our planet (say beneath the surface of Mars).
African Cave Painting
An African cave painting depicts a being wearing headgear with antennae and flying through the air. The being has large black, slanted eyes, thin lips, and is holding an animal in its arms.
In the foreground of a medieval tapestry in the Collégiale Notre-Dame, in Beaune, France, is a depiction of the Virgin Mary but in the background is a clear rendition of a flying ship. Was this an artists witness to something really weird while painting the Virgin Mary?
The 1561 UFO Incident Over Nuremberg
An old woodcut created by Hans Glaser in 1566 clearly depicts a battle between flying disks and cylinders that occurred over Nuremberg, Germany, on April 4, 1561 in what is believed to be the first mass sighting of celestial phenomena and unidentified flying objects in history.
Jupiter’s Moon Europa
According to scientists, the quantity of water contained beneath Europa’s icy crust, which is shielded from harmful radiation, is one of the solar system’s best chances for finding alien life and a good indicator that some might already exist.
The Roswell Incident
According to many theories, in 1947, an alien spacecraft, with its crew aboard, crashed in Roswell, New Mexico. Ever since then, Roswell has been called the world’s most famous, most exhaustively investigated, and most controversial UFO claim in history.
The Great Los Angeles Air Raid
This incident occurred less than three months after the United States entered World War II, on February 24, 1942, and that’s why initially the target of the aerial barrage was thought to be an attacking force from Japan. But the main reason why it was later believed to be a UFO was the fact that even though the unidentified object was hit multiple times by antiaircraft fire, it appeared to be undamaged and soon disappeared into the night, never to be seen again.
The Egyptian hieroglyphics found in the Temple of Seti I at Abydos have been interpreted as featuring out-of-place artifacts that depict a helicopter as well as other examples of modern day technology. Some argue that this is evidence of aliens in ancient times. However, there is a strong argument that states these hieroglyphs to be the result of Ramessess II’s attempt to steal credit for the built temple (and thus inscribing his name on top of Ramassess I’s name).
The Drake equation is a probabilistic argument used to estimate the number of active, communicative extraterrestrial civilizations in the Milky Way galaxy. It was first presented by Frank Drake in 1961 and identifies specific factors thought to play a role in the development of such civilizations.
An 1803 illustration from Ume No Chiri depicts a real-life artifact found by a Japanese sailor. Its exterior was iron and glass and the inside featured the strange letters pictured in the drawing. Was this the creation of a vivid imagination, or was the artist inspired by technology beyond the times?
Australian Rock Art
Predominantly found in the remote Australian northwest Kimberly region, there are ancient drawings (known as Wandjina paintings) on rocks that show beings with enlarged bald heads, large slanted eyes, and no mouths. Aliens maybe?
The US Air Force acquired the area in 1955 and all the research about possible sightings or alien landings associated with the place is well guarded. Its secretive nature and undoubted connection to classified aircraft research, together with reports of unusual phenomena, have made Area 51 a focus of modern UFO conspiracy theories.
Apollo 11’s UFO sighting
In a documentary about the Apollo 11 space mission, the astronauts stated without reservation that they saw a UFO that kept pace with them for a time while on their journey to the moon. Though explanations for this UFO sighting range from the rocket that had separated from the main craft to the sun reflecting off the detached panels.
A published article in the Russian Solar System Research magazine claimed that a Soviet probe actually captured images of alien life (creatures that looked like scorpions) on Earth’s scorching sister Venus back in 1982. (Though it’s important to note that most scientists have attributed this “scorpion” to faulty camera lenses).
NASA’s scientists have recently found tiny fossils of bacterial alien life-forms in the remnants of a meteorite that landed on Earth.
Throughout the years many people have claimed to have been abducted by aliens. Though these kind of claims warrant skepticism, it’s not outside the realm of possibility for these claims to have some merit. Most notably a few year ago a victim from Gulf Breeze, Florida, claimed, a “large human-like figure” took a sample from his spine with a syringe while he was sleeping in his home. Was this truly intelligent life performing research on this man, a mere hallucination, or an elaborate hoax?
The Known Universe Itself
Technically speaking, there is no direct proof that life outside our planet exists, at least not yet. Nevertheless, our universe is home to a lot of stars, and about half of them (that we know of) harbor planets. It’s difficult to believe that our planet is the only planet that has gone through life sustaining changes. It’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility, but it’s more likely that there is indeed life out there somewhere and we just haven’t found it yet.
