Are you a big Harry Potter fan?

Some people have read every book (and some have read them more than once). If you are a fan of the books or the movies, then you probably have a favorite character.

The Harry Potter movies helped launch the acting careers of many young talents. It also starred some already famous actors in their own right.

Domhnall Gleeson


Domhnall Gleeson is the son of famous Irish actor Brendan Gleeson.

He plays the role of Bill Weasley, older brother to Ron Weasley.

After the last Harry Potter film, Gleeson has kept busy acting. Recently, he was the starring actor in a Netflix film titled About Time.


Evanna Lynch


Evanna Lynch played the socially awkward Luna Lovegood, nicknamed Looney Luna.

Lynch is not only an actress, but she is also an activist and advocate. She works to promote body positivism and self-esteem.


Harry Melling


Many will remember Harry Melling as Dudley Dursley, the nasty, spoiled cousin of Harry Potter.

Since the films, Melling has lost a considerable amount of weight and is still acting.

In 2018, he played a role in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.


Jamie Waylett


Jamie Waylett played Vincent Crabbe, a pure-blood wizard from the House of Slytherin. He was one of Draco Malfoy’s henchmen.

Toward the end of the series, his character had been written out and replaced. According to some sources, the actor had gotten into some legal trouble and had to leave the film.

The Harry Potter movies are his only acting credits to date.


Katie Leung


Katie Leung played Cho Chang, the love interest of the title character.

Leung continues to act. She has appeared in a few TV shows, but nothing major since Harry Potter.


Timothy Spall


Timothy Spall had a long acting career before the Harry Potter films. In the movies, he played the back-stabbing Peter Pettigrew.

Spall continues to act, and in 2014 he played the lead role of J.M.W. Turner in the biopic Mr. Turner.


Bonnie Wright


Bonnie Wright played Ginny Weasley, the youngest sibling of Ron Weasley.

No longer a child actor, Wright now spends her time working behind the camera as well as in front.


Joshua Herdman


Joshua Herdman played Gregory Goyle, another one of Draco Malfoy’s lackeys.

Nowadays, Herdman can be seen in the octagon as an MMA Fighter.


Freddie Stroma


Freddie Stroma played Connor McLaggen, a wizard and Quidditch player who helps Harry defend Hogwarts against the Dark Lord Voldemort.

Stroma continues to act. He’s appeared in a few television shows. He also starred as H.G. Wells in the short-run television series Time After Time.


Kenneth Branagh


Kenneth Branagh probably needs no introduction. He’s been acting and directing films and theatre long before Harry Potter picked up a wand.

Potter fans will remember him as the arrogant but inadequate professor Gilderoy Lockhart.

As of recent, you can see Branagh playing Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot in the 2017 film adaptation, Murder on the Orient Express.


Robbie Coltrane


One can’t forget Hagrid, the gruff but lovable protector of Harry Potter and his friends.

Robbie Coltrane is another veteran actor in both drama and comedy. Since the film series ended, Coltrane has kept busy.

He has acted in many movies and a few miniseries.


Fiona Shaw


Fiona Shaw played the mean aunt of Harry Potter.

If you want to see Fiona Shaw today, you can check out the hit TV show Killing Eve. Shaw plays the head of MI-6, Carolyn Martens.


Robert Pattinson


Before he played vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies, Robert Pattinson played Gryffindor wizard Cedric Gregory.

Since Harry Potter, Pattinson has become a leading man in numerous movies.

He is due to star as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming Batman movie.


Matthew Lewis


Matthew Lewis is best known as playing the ultra-nervous wizard, Neville Longbottom.

Longbottom has come a long way since his geeky role in Harry Potter. He lost a bunch of weight and got married in 2018. He still continues to act.


Alan Rickman


Alan Rickman played the mysterious wizard, Severus Snape.

Rickman was known for playing snobs and villains throughout his career.

Sadly, Rickman passed away in 2016, at the age of 69, from pancreatic cancer.


Jason Issacs


Jason Issacs played the evil wizard and father to Draco Malfoy, Lucius Malfoy.

Issacs is a versatile actor playing such roles as an Irish mobster in the Showtime series Brotherhood and a sadistic general in The Patriot. He can now be seen on Netflix in the sci-fi drama, The OA.


Imelda Staunton


You couldn’t help but hate her character in the Harry Potter films. Imelda Staunton played Dolores Uxbridge with such conviction.

You may wonder if Staunton had some haters in real life. Today, Staunton acts in the popular series Downton Abbey.


Helena Bonham Carter


You had probably already seen Helena Bonham Carter in the movie Fight Club. You might have also seen her in numerous Tim Burton movies.

In Harry Potter, she played the evil Bellatrix Lestrange.

Carter still continues her acting career. She is set to play Princess Margaret in the next two seasons of TV series The Crown.


Gary Oldman


Gary Oldman has played every character imaginable, from a terrorist to a police commissioner.

In the Harry Potter movies, he played Sirius Black.

Oldman still pursues a career in acting and has no plans on stopping anytime soon.


Richard Harris


Richard Harris was the first actor to play Headmaster Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter movies.

A fine actor on the screen and stage, Harris passed away in October of 2002.


Michael Gambon


Michael Gambon was the second actor to play Dumbledore after the death of Richard Harris.

Like many of his co-stars, Gambon has had a lengthy film and theatre career. He continues to act.


Tom Felton


No one can forget the conniving and vile nemesis of Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy. Tom Felton did a great job performing that role.

Felton is reportedly a nice guy in real life. He still acts and was recently seen on the YouTube series Origins.


Rupert Grint


The role of Ron Weasley definitely shot Rupert Grint into stardom, but he still continues to impress people with his talent.

He has starred in many TV shows and continues to act in movies.


Emma Watson


Emma Watson is the crush of many fanboys.

The role of Hermione Granger gave Watson her start, but she still plays leading ladies.

She played Belle in the live version of Beauty and the Beast, and she will play a lead role in the upcoming film Little Women.


Daniel Radcliffe


Although Harry Potter is the role that made Daniel Radcliffe famous, he has played many diverse roles since then.

He will soon be starring in the thriller Escape from Pretoria. He also can be seen on the TV show Miracle Workers as an angel.
