One of the greatest debates in recent years, from both social justice and ethical point of view, has been over whether the death penalty should be abolished or remain in use, and the consequences of the final choice.
As years go by more and more people appear to be against the death penalty for various reasons and most importantly, for the many tragic mistakes that have happened as a result of its use through the years.
However, the nature of some crimes is so horrific and unjustified by any standard that the death penalty seems the only “answer” to such brutality and monstrous behavior. Especially when it comes to these 25 most monstrous serial killers of children in history.

Francisca Ballesteros is a Spanish woman who poisoned her first baby, a daughter, back in 1990, when she was only five months old. Fourteen years later she decided to finish her “job” and killed her husband and other daughter because she had met a man on the Internet and wanted to run away with him. She also attempted to poison her twelve-year-old son, but he survived. She was finally arrested and sentenced to eighty-four years in prison in 2005.
Ian Brady and his partner, Myra Hindley, killed five children ages ten to seventeen in the mid-sixties. The victims were first sexually abused and then murdered. When Brady was finally arrested in 1965, he claimed to have mental issues only so he could avoid the death penalty. He’s been kept since then for almost fifty years now in a high-security mental institution.
Myra Hindley earned the title of the “Most Evil Woman in Britain” when she was arrested for the rape and murder of five innocent children with her boyfriend Ian Brady. After spending many years in jail, she claimed she was only helping Brady fulfill his perverse desires because he was supposedly blackmailing her. In 2002 she died in prison from a heart attack.
Marybeth Tinning is one of the sickest women in history. She killed her own nine children between 1972 and 1985. Even though her babies died under extremely suspicious circumstances over the course of little more than a decade, she would finally get caught only after a laboratory test indicated that the death of Tinning’s ninth child resulted from smothering. She was only convicted of the death of her last child, for which she received twenty years in prison. Her next opportunity for parole is in January 2015, and we here at List25 hope she is denied her freedom and rots in jail to her last breath.
Tommy Lynn Sells
Tommy Lynn Sells is believed by police to have murdered at least twenty-two people. He technically began his murderous activity when he was a teenager himself since he claimed killing a pedophile at sixteen. Five years later, at twenty-one, he killed a woman and her son because she stole from him and her four-year-old son had the bad luck of being a witness to the act. He went on to kill three more children until he was arrested in 1999. On April 3, 2014, Sells was executed by lethal injection at the Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville.
