A man named Dean Sokell woke up to find himself beating his wife to death with a hammer. However, once he realized what he was doing, rather than stopping, he stabbed her to silence her screams.
35-year-old Alan Ball went to a New Year’s Eve party, got drunk, and fell asleep on a sofa. He sleepwalked up the stairs of the house, got in a bed with an underaged girl and kissed her on the lips. Afterward, he claimed he’d been sleepwalking and had no memory of the events. Of course, he was still charged with molestation. However, later, a court acquitted him of the act after two experts examined him and confirmed his sleepwalking history.
Climbing a Crane
In 2005, a fifteen-year-old girl climbed a 130-foot (39 meters) crane while sleepwalking. She had been seen by a passerby curled up and fast asleep on the crane. Eventually, a fireman climbed the crane to get her but didn’t wake her for fear she’d panic and fall. Instead, they had her parents call her cell phone number and thankfully she made it safely to the ground.
In 2003, Jules Lowe told the authorities he murdered his 82-year-old father while sleepwalking and had no recollection of the event. In court, he was acquitted due to insanity and was given psychiatric care. From 2000 to 2005, there was 68 reported homicide sleepwalking cases.
Sleep with Strangers
In one case, a married Australian woman would sleepwalk and go have intercourse with absolute strangers. The behavior happened frequently for months, and she had no memory of it afterward. She was able to stop her nocturnal activities after psychiatric counseling.
