Beyonce Knowles was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She grew up in a close-knit family of four, with her parents Matthew and Tina, and her younger sister Solange. When she was just five years old, Beyonce took part in a local talent show and won first place with her rendition of “Amazing Grace”. Her love for singing and performing had begun to take shape.
Her parents, Mathew and Tina, worked hard to provide Beyonce with a good life. Like Bill Gates, she had a good childhood, Beyonce enrolled in dance classes at St. Mary’s Montessori School, and eventually went to a high school specializing in performing arts.
At age seven, Beyonce joined the junior vocal group Girls Tyme which eventually became Destiny’s Child. Through this group, she achieved tremendous success as they released four albums during the 90s which sold millions of copies worldwide. Alongside her time in Destiny’s Child, Beyonce also pursued acting appearances on television shows such as The Cosby Show and Sesame Street.
When she dropped her debut solo album in 2003. She earned five Grammy Awards for her work on the album, which was a record at the time. She dominated the charts like Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the ring and Eminem on the rap scene.
That remarkable album set her up beautifully for one of the most impressive careers we’ve ever seen in the music industry. She has sold over 100 million records worldwide and an additional 60 million with Destiny’s Child, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. The group released four studio albums between 1998 and 2004: Destiny’s Child (1998), The Writing’s on the Wall (1999), Survivor (2001), and Destiny Fulfilled (2004). The trio went their separate ways to pursue solo careers during a hiatus in 2005 and reunited for a brief tour in 2006. Destiny’s Child achieved international success with singles such as “No, No, No”, “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Say My Name”—all of which peaked within the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart—as well as their Grammy Award-winning single “Independent Women Part I”, from the soundtrack to the 2000 film Charlie’s Angels. Other singles released include “Jumpin’, Jumpin’”, “Bootylicious” and “Survivor” – all becoming hits both stateside and internationally. In 2003 they released their first greatest hits album called #1’s featuring every hit single since their 1998 debut album; several previously unreleased tracks were also included on this compilation album. The trio embarked on a reunion tour in 2013 with new tracks recorded for a fourth studio album to be released at some point during the tour. Despite unfinished plans for this release, it never came to fruition due to personal differences within the group subsequently ending Destiny’s Child once again – though they remain popular today with old fans as well as gaining new ones.
