List25 Deathmatch: Should You Microwave Your Coffee?

Should you microwave your coffee? Let us set something up for you. You wake up groggy with bloodshot eyes and drool hanging down your mouth. You drag yourself over to the black gold machine (i.e. coffee maker) and pour yourself a nice, steaming hot cup of coffee. Like a bat out of hell, your kids come screaming down the hallway, and little Max is threatening to pull the hair out of Jessica’s favorite doll. She screams. Max laughs. You die a little inside. You race off to stop them from fighting, but that becomes a quagmire of other parental duties. After thirty to forty-five minutes of being an adult, you return to your mug of coffee. You take a sip, grimace, and spit the lukewarm coffee out of your mouth, like the devil’s poison it is. So, we’ll ask again, should you microwave your coffee?

This question has become something of a heated debate between the editors here at List25. Out of that came the idea of bring the debate to you in a new segment we want to call List25 Deathmatch. Both editors, Crystal and Jason, will argue their side in this list, and by the end, you can do the difficult task of making up your mind. Without further ado, here is List25 Deathmatch: Should you microwave your coffee?

No: Your coffee will taste old and stale.

Yes, you can solve the whole “burnt” taste with a few adjustments, but you can you take away the lingering taste of stale disappointment? I’m sorry, but there’s no button on the microwave for that. – CC

Yes: Burnt coffee is better than lukewarm and cold coffee.

hot coffee

Even if you burn your coffee in the microwave, it’s way better than lukewarm coffee. People whine about burnt coffee, but they forget the alternative. As we’ve already made clear, lukewarm coffee is disgusting. So, when you’re choosing your own caffeine adventure and have to decide between lukewarm coffee or cold coffee, choose hot coffee by reheating it in the microwave. It’s fast, easy, hot, and you won’t waste your coffee. – JI

No: You can use a Yeti Cup, instead.

What sounds better to you, burnt coffee from the microwave or fresh hot coffee? I know the kids might make that difficult, but there is a simple solution that I can speak to from experience! Invest in a Yeti cup or buy an inexpensive alternative from Target. You don’t get the evil ju-ju from the microwave and your coffee is still hot and fresh. Simple and no cold or burnt coffee. – CC

No: You can just add ice.

iced coffee

If you don’t like the Yeti cup idea, let’s not forget that you can also just add ice. If you think about it, it’s the best of both worlds: half a sip of hot delicious coffee before the kids go crazy and a large up of ice coffee in the afternoon. You could even spice it up with some flavored syrup or use it as a base in milkshake after the kids go to bed. – CC

Yes: Cold coffee isn't nearly as good as hot coffee.

coffee hot

Coffee lovers against microwaving coffee provide the alternative of  cold coffee. It’s a nice little fairy tale. Cold coffee is fine and all, but be honest with yourself, it doesn’t hold a candle to hot coffee. Hot coffee brings out the flavors and warms your soul. It’s everything coffee was meant to be. Look, if you want to make cold coffee, go ahead, but don’t lie to yourself; It’s not hot coffee. – JI
