Louis C.K. Is Accused by 5 Women of Sexual Misconduct

In 2002, a Chicago comedy duo, Dana Min Goodman and Julia Wolov, landed their big break: a chance to perform at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colo. When Louis C.K. invited them to hang out in his hotel room for a nightcap after their late-night show, they did not think twice. The bars were closed and they wanted to celebrate. He was a comedian they admired. The women would be (click on the image to read the full article).

Poll shows Americans taking the Trump-Russia scandal seriously

Trump putin

There hasn’t been a lot of public polling about the Trump-Russia scandal lately, so I was glad to see this question in a CNN survey released this week:

“U.S. intelligence agencies have said that they believe the Russian government attempted to influence the outcome of the U.S. presidential election last year through hacking of political campaigns and the release of selected information. If this assessment is correct, do you think that would be a crisis for the United States, a major problem, a minor problem, or not a problem at all?”

The poll found that 22% of Americans see the scandal as a “crisis” – up from 17% earlier this year – while an additional 44% believe it’s a (click on the picture to read the full article).

John Hillerman, Magnum PI star, dies at 84

John Hillerman, the US actor who shot to fame as snooty English caretaker Higgins in Tom Selleck’s ’80s TV series Magnum PI, has died at the age of 84.
Hillerman’s publicist said he died of natural causes on Thursday at his home in Houston, Texas.
Born in 1932, Hillerman started out on stage before landing small roles in such ’70s classics as The Last Picture Show, Blazing Saddles and Chinatown.
But he is best known for Magnum, which won him (click on the image to read the full article).

The Vacuity of the Vice President

With Donald Trump in Asia plugging his golf resort and telling his hosts “I never knew we had so many countries,” the leaderless United States has had a week to try out President Mike Pence. Make that Pastor Pence.

It’s not a problem that Pence is a sycophant in chief, perhaps the greatest bootlicker to take up residence at the Naval Observatory. His little stunt, on Trump’s orders, of flying halfway across the country to walk out on people exercising their First Amendment rights at a football game cost taxpayers a pile. So. Veeps are (click on the image to read the full article).

Bonobo help strangers without being asked

DURHAM, N.C. — A passer-by drops something and you spring to pick it up. Or maybe you hold the door for someone behind you. Such acts of kindness to strangers were long thought to be unique to humans, but recent research on bonobos suggests our species is not as exceptional in this regard as we like to think.

Famously friendly apes from Africa’s Congo Basin, bonobos will go out of their way to help strangers too, said Jingzhi Tan, a postdoctoral (click on the image to read the full article).

MALIBU, Calif. — A Malibu church that has helped the homeless for years has been asked to stop feeding people who are down on their luck.
