What is Kobe Bryant’s net worth? Good question. Kobe Bean Bryant was born on August 23, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Much like Stephen Curry, his father was also a professional basketballer. Bryant’s father, Joe “Jellybean” Bryant played in the NBA for eight seasons before ending his NBA career in 1984.
After exiting the NBA, he moved Kobe and the rest of the family to Italy so he could continue playing basketball for the Italian League. Kobe, much like his father, loved sports. He played basketball and soccer religiously growing up.
When the family returned to the states in 1991, Kobe, much like LeBron James and Michael Jordan, was big on high school sports. He joined the Lower Merion High School basketball team and led them to state championships four years in a row.
Even though he had good grades, Kobe decided to skip college and go straight to the NBA. He was selected by the Charlotte Hornets as the 13th overall pick of the 1996 NBA draft. Kobe was then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.
In just his second season in the NBA, Kobe was voted as a starter for the 1998 All-Star Game, which made him the youngest All-Star in NBA history at 19-years-old. Kobe teamed up with Shaquille O’Neal to turn the Los Angeles Lakers into one of the most powerful teams in the NBA. They won three consecutive NBA championships together. During this time, Kobe scored lucrative endorsement deals with Sprite, Adidas and a few other popular brands.
In 2006, Kobe scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors, the second-highest single game scoring mark in history. He drained 7 three-pointers during the game and hit 18-20 from the foul line. Two years later, Kobe was voted Most Valuable Player and basically carried the Lakers on his back to the NBA finals. They lost in the finals to the Boston Celtics, but returned in 2009 to defeat the Orlando Magic. Needless to say, Kobe Bryant’s net worth was expanding.
In addition to his work in the NBA, Kobe also participated in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, where he won consecutive gold medals with teammates Kevin Durant and LeBron James. In 2014, Bryant surpassed Michael Jordan for third all-time on the NBA scoring list. He announced his retirement in 2015, but he has remained close to the game of basketball.
His retirement poem was turned into a short film titled Dear Basketball, and the film actually won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 2018. Just another trophy to add to his collection.
Kobe’s net worth stands at $500 million, which easily makes him one of the richest athletes in the world. Kobe Bryant’s net worth is at the same level as Jay Z, and Dr. Dre. However, he has some ways to go before reaching the same wealth status as Bill Gates!
