What is Harvey Weinstein’s net worth? The public wants to know and we have the answers. Weinstein was born in New York City in 1952. After graduating from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1973, Harvey Weinstein started a concert promotion business in Buffalo. He then purchased a theater in town and started airing concert films.
Six years later in 1979, Harvey and his brother Bob founded the Miramax Films Corporation, named after their parents. It was originally started to distribute indie, art-house projects, but it soon developed into a key player in the film industry. In just 10 years, Weinstein and his brother built a successful Hollywood studio, releasing films like My Left Foot and Sex, Lies, and Videotape.
The Walt Disney Company acquired Miramax in 1993, but Harvey stayed with the company and oversaw several award-winning films. In 2005, Harvey and his brother left Miramax to found The Weinstein Company. They produced Oscar-winning films like The King’s Speech and The Artist.
Safe to say, everyone wanted to work with Harvey. He produced hit after hit, and that made him an extremely powerful and wealthy man. During the peak of his career, Harvey Weinstein’s net worth of around $300 million.
What happened? The Weinstein Sexual Assault Scandal happened. In October 2017, The New York Times released an article about his long history of sexual assault and harassment. Weinstein’s first response to the report was to sue the Times, but then once dozens of actresses came forward, he changed his tune and released a statement blaming the era in which he grew up…
“I came of age in the ’60s and ’70s, when all the rules about behavior and workplaces were different. That was the culture then. I have since learned it is not an excuse.”
As more women came forward, Weinstein was removed from his own company and entered a rehab facility in Arizona for sex addiction treatment. On May 25, 2018, Weinstein turned himself into the NYPD and was arrested and charged with rape, committing a criminal sex act, sexual abuse, and sexual misconduct.
He paid $1 million in cash to post bail. In July of 2018, he was indicted on three additional felony sex charges from a 2006 incident. He could face a life sentence if/when this case goes to trial. So expect Harvey Weinstein’s net worth to continue dropping. Before you know it, he’ll probably be kicked out of the millionaires club (Beyonce and Taylor Swift are members).
