What is Drake’s net worth? These days Drake is known for selling out stadiums and producing one number one hit after the other, but before the fame and money, Drake was just some kid in Canada named Aubrey.
Like Eminem’s less-than-stellar real name, Drake had the same. He was born Aubrey Drake Graham in Toronto, Canada, in 1986. While his childhood wasn’t rough like Conor McGregor‘s or Floyd Mayweather’s, there was instability in his life.
His father, Dennis Graham would occasionally play drums for the Rock ‘n’ Roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis. Drake’s uncle, Larry Graham, played bass for Sly and the Family Stone, so clearly Drake came from a very musical family.
Unlike Beyonce‘s parents, Drake’s parents divorced when he was five and he spent most of his time growing up with his mother, Sandi. He attended Jewish day school and even had a Bar Mitzvah when he was 13.
It was an awkward time for Drake because he went to a virtually all-white high school, and no one really understood what it was like to be black and Jewish. He would later say the pain of never really fitting made him stronger and prepared him for the entertainment industry.
Needless to say, Drake’s net worth was a big fat zero at this point, but that would start changing when he broke into the entertainment scene – not a rapper, but an actor!
Interestingly, he had a classmate who had a father who was an agent, and the father told his son “if there’s anyone in the class that makes you laugh, have them audition for me.”
Drake auditioned for him and he was signed a short time later. Not long after landing the agent, Drake got a role in 2001 on the Canadian teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation. By now, Drake’s net worth was growing.
Drake played “Jimmy Brooks” in the show, and was often referred to as “Wheelchair Jimmy” because his character was permanently wheelchair-bound after being shot by a classmate. Yes, this was a very dramatic show. Basically a soap opera for teens. It was the ‘Riverdale’ of the early 2000s. He starred on the show for seven years before transitioning to the hip-hop world.
He released his first mixtape while he was still on the show in 2006. The following year, he released another mixtape titled Comeback Season, which was really the first time he was truly recognized as a legit artist. In 2008, Drake was let go from Degrassi, and he was not yet making significant money from his music career, so he was on the verge of having to find a day job.
Thankfully, that never happened. Lil Wayne called him unexpectedly and asked him to join his Carter III tour. After touring and recording music with Wayne, Drake released a third mixtape titled So Far Gone in February 2009.
By now, Drake’s net worth was ballooning. It featured the song ‘Best I Ever Had’, ‘which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart. From there, he went 0 to 100 real quick. He released his first studio album in 2010 and it went certified platinum.
The 32-year-old rapper has four Grammy Awards from 42 nominations. Drake’s net worth is at least $100 million, but some reports put it closer to $140 million. That number will only climb as he continues to tour around the world.
To give you some perspective, in 2016 he was estimated to be worth $60 million, so in just three years, he’s doubled that number. He could be above $200 million within the next year or two. So, we can’t put an exact figure on Drake’s net worth, but we can say that’s a lot (maybe not as much as Donald Trump orBill Gates, but still).
