The Army owns about 24,000 square miles of land. In theory, if the Army was a state, it would be the 42nd largest in the US.

During the The Great Los Angeles Air Raid in February 1942, the Army ordered a total blackout of Los Angeles and fired 1,400 anti-air artillery and thousands of .50 caliber shots at a reported enemy aircraft. Just a few hours later, it proved to be a false alarm.

In World War II, supporting one soldier on the battlefield took one gallon of fuel per day. Today, more than 22 gallons of fuel per soldier/day is needed.
