Posted by , Updated on November 15, 2023

Ah, the romance novel. From The Song of Solomon in the bible (read it. As an adult. It’s…yeah) to 50 Shades of Twilight Fanfic, people have been reading about the intimacies between people for eons.

If you think the genre includes cheesy paperbacks like 50 Shades, allow us to open your mind a little bit. There’s something for nearly everyone in this genre, from free romance books online to those you won’t mind paying for. To get you started, here are 25 Steamy Romantic Books You’ll Want To Get Lost In.

Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa

RhapsodicSource: My Kindle

Callie is a Siren, who’s greatly in debt to a powerful being known simply as The Bargainer. She has been in debt to him since she asked for help covering up her stepfather’s murder at 16.

This is an urban fantasy novel, meaning that it’s our world, but with magic. And romance. And…sexiness.

Thassala has a gift for writing characters who actually have intelligence, depth, and wit, and because of that, her writing is a joy to read. While all of her writing is absolutely worth reading (if urban fantasy with awesome heroines and romance is your thing), this is a particular favorite of mine and the first in a series.

Fallen Too Far by Abbi Glines

Feeling Hot by Elle Kennedy

FeelingHotSource: http://smexybooks.com/

Two hot Navy SEALs, one lady, there’s a plot, something about an abusive ex, but mostly there’s a lot of naked. Let’s be honest, this is one of the ones you’re not reading for the plot. The dude on the cover doesn’t even have a head, just abs.

21

Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon

IcePlanetBarbariansSource: http://goodbadandunread.com

Did you know that there are a lot of romantic/erotic novels about humanoid aliens? Let’s be honest, this isn’t exactly a new or weird idea. Who didn’t have a crush on a Vulcan back in the day? If you’re curious about erotic aliens, give this novel a shot.

Girls get kidnapped from earth to be sold as slaves, crash land on an icy planet, and are rescued by a tribe of large blue men who are…devoted. And horny. Literally, they have like, horns.

18

Haven by Rebekah Weatherspoon

HavenSource: http://smexybooks.com

Some series are thankfully very upfront about their content, and Beards & Bondage series is one such series. The first book, “Haven,” is about a woman recovering from a brutal attack in the woods which resulted in the death of her brother she’d gone camping with.

The guy, Shep, is single and hangs out for one week a year at a BDSM club. He’s got hangups. She’s got trauma to move past. They take a week to, ahem, explore all sorts of fun things together.

17

Sexy romance novels are not just for heterosexual pairings. There are plenty of sexy men who prefer sexy men to read about. Such is the case with Dance With Me.

An Ex-football player whose career was ended by injury meets a gifted dancer. They meet while volunteering at a center for underprivileged youth. It’s sweet and sexy.

16

Nine Rules To Break When Romancing A Rake by Sarah MacLean

NineRulesSource: http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com

Nine Rules is about a “spinster” and a lovely male lead named Gabriel St. John, the Marquess of Ralston.

Yeah. Lady Calpurnia Hartwell is a bit of wallflower and a bit past prime marrying age when she makes a list of things that will make her happy and…goes after them. Enthusiastically.

15

Unveiled by Courtney Milan

UnveiledSource: https://www.barnesandnoble.com

Unveiled is set in 1837 England. So if you’re into LITERAL bodice ripping, make some coffee and get comfy. Ash Turner is looking to get revenge on the man he believes ruined his family.

Lady Anna Margaret is the daughter of the man Ash Turner is after. This book has been described by Barnes & Noble’s book blog as one you’ll want to “fall in love with in the privacy of your own home.”

14

DevilsSubmissionSource: http://happyeverafter.usatoday.com

This is the second book in a series about a hedonistic club in London, run by three Lords. Three Lords nicknamed Sin, Devil, and Vice. Each book centers around one of the men, and in Devil’s Submission, we find Lord Grayson attempting to reconcile with his wife.

In an interview with USA Today, Davidson described Lord Grayson. “Devil is the son of a marquess and has been the victim of severe violence in the past because of his ‘unmanly’ submissive tendencies,” she says, “So he pretends to be like his friends, strong alpha males, even though it kills him inside.”

13

Lonen's War by Jeffe Kennedy

LonensWarSource: http://www.jeffekennedy.com

Jeffe Kennedy is a well accomplished and award-winning author of both romance and high fantasy novels. Her worlds draw you in and don’t let you go. “Lonen’s War” is the first book in a series called Sorcerous Moons. Princess Oria literally lives in an ivory tower. She’s destined to be a priestess, someone who has access to magic but can’t use it herself, rather just feed it to her male counterparts.

Lonen is a Destrye, a “barbarian,” and when his people attack the city, it is the Princess who rides out to surrender. The princess who is so sensitive to the energy of others that she can’t bare the touch of another. If you love political intrigue and large sexy warrior men who never planned on being crowned on a battlefield, this series is very much for you.

12

One Good Earl Deserves a Lover by Sarah MacLean

OneGoodEarlDeservesALoverSource: https://www.barnesandnoble.com

Here is another steamy read for you ladies and lads who are into historical romance.

Wherein a Lady of good upbringing convinces an owner of a gambling establishment to, ahem, teach her the ways of the marriage bed before her impeding nuptials…Without deflowering her. In theory.

11

Starting from Scratch by Georgia Beers

startingfromscratchSource: http://www.afterellen.com

Starting from Scratch is a lesbian romance full of warm fuzzies, baking, and little league.
One of the main characters is a mom, which is…pretty cool, representation-wise.

There are plenty of lesbian and bisexual women who are mothers. Who have families? Who are also still very sexual creatures?

10

Deepest Desires of a Wicked Duke by Sharon Page

Deepest Desires of a Wicked DukeSource: http://happyeverafter.usatoday.com

Do you like characters with a complicated past and corsets? Characters who wake up in the middle of an orgy on an island and have to solve murders before they’re killed themselves?

Yes? Here’s a book for you!

9

Silver Wings by H.P. Munro

Silver WingsSource: http://www.afterellen.com

A period novel set during WWII, Silver Wings centers around the romance between two women, and we’ll leave it at that!

8

Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning

ShadowfeverSource: www.smexybooks.com

Shadowfever” is actually #5 in a series called The Fever Series. The good folks over at smexybooks.com have given it an A+ rating, and I have found them to have very good taste indeed.

This series combines Celtic Mythology and the world as we know it, making it technically Urban Fantasy, but it’s a little out of the box even for the genre. And it contains lines like this (edited for family-friendliness) “He (ahem) *loves* me with the single-minded devotion of a dying man hunting God.”

7

Luck On The Line by Zoraida Córdova

luckonthelineSource: http://www.latina.com/

This is a sexy love story about a restaurant owner and “bad boy” chef that’s full of snark. And sex. And food. Who doesn’t love snark and sex and food?

6

Noah by Elizabeth Reyes

NoahSource: http://www.latina.com/

Noah features a woman falling for her sexy, younger personal trainer.

He also falls for her. They attempt to just be friends, though. Imagine how that works out.

5

Promises Linger by Sarah McCarty

promiseslingerSource: https://www.barnesandnoble.com

Sexy historical cowboy romance is a genre. And “Promises Linger” (the first book in her Promise Series) delivers just that, via 1860’s Wyoming.

There’s a pretty specific scene with a Kitchen Table. It’ll make a good housewife blush, for sure.

4

Act Your Age by Eve Dangerfield

actyourageSource: http://smexybooks.com/

Act Your Age is an erotic novel – just, yep, you know what you’re getting – about a sweet younger woman with a penchant for knitting and baking who falls for her boss.

You ever had a slightly older and really really hot boss you wanted to call “daddy”? If so, then this book is your kind of thing. Exactly that kind of thing, actually.

3

All In with the Duke by Ava March

AllInWithTheDukeSource: http://happyeverafter.usatoday.com/

Another historical romance (okay look, a lot of the clothes were just sexier and more well made then, and titles are fun; it’s an aesthetic thing) features an interesting twist.

This one features a brokenhearted Duke of Pelham, who after 10 months of celibacy falls for a beautiful young man at a brothel. The business arrangement between the two men becomes “complicated” by feels.

2

Beauty and the Beast by Vivienne Savage

BeuatyandtheBeastSource: https://www.bookbub.com/

“Adult” fairy tales are a whole genre in romantic and erotic fiction. If Erotic isn’t your thing – and no shame if it isn’t – there are plenty of YA retellings that are nitty gritty without being graphic floating around out there.

However, if you like your heroes and heroines to finally get naked at some point, may we suggest Beauty and the Beast by Vivienne Savage. The “Beast” is a dragon shifter who’s stuck in his dragon form, and Princess Anastasia – sent to the beast by her father in hopes of preventing a war – may be the only one who can save both the Prince and their kingdoms.

1

Radiance by Grace Draven

RadianceSource: My kindle

Some books on this list are kitschy; some are just flat out eroticism, and some are very well written intricate fantasy worlds. Grace Draven is the queen of that last category with solid world building and complex characters that are actually flawed in ways that make them believable.

Yes her books are “steamy,” but you are so invested in the charters by the time the clothes come off that it’s not merely a sex scene but rather the culmination of a relationship and characters that have already had their souls joined by a shared journey or difficulty of some kind.

All her books are worth reading, but I’m recommending you start with Radiance. By the time Brishen and Idilko finally consummate their political marriage, it’s not merely sex. It’s a husband and a wife expressing their mutual love and respect physically. This is pretty darn awesome and despite the magic and fantasy elements, it makes Draven’s writing relatable in a way that most romance novels aren’t.

Let’s face it, the books on this list are entertaining, but they probably aren’t life changing. Looking for something that might shift your world? Check out 25 Life-Changing Books For You To Add To Your Library.
