25 Reasons That The United Arab Emirates Is Way Over The Top

The United Arab Emirates is a unique place. For one, it is one of the last few remaining absolute monarchies in the world. What does this mean? Well, in contrast to countries like the United Kingdom or Canada, where parliament holds the power (constitutional monarchy), in the United Arab Emirates the monarch is the only one holding the reigns. Moreover, the monarchs are usually filthy rich. Why? Well that typically boils down to oil. The gulf states are all sitting on vast oil reserves and that has generated a majority of their wealth. This wealth, combined with a highly conservative society has created a unique environment. People come (primarily from southern Asia) to work in Dubai thanks to the fact that it offers numerous high paying jobs. This in turn has led to some pretty skewed statistics. Although the population of the United Arab Emirates numbers in the millions, only a small fraction are actually citizens. And the ruling families like to keep it that way. Gaining citizenship in these places is virtually unheard of. So, although people come to work for many years, when their jobs are done, they have to leave. These are 25 reasons that the United Arab Emirates is way over the top!
