25 Really Deep Insights Into The Lives Of Fish And Other Underwater Creatures

By now you’ve probably heard the phrase that we know more about the surface of the moon than we do about the bottom of the ocean. In fact, more humans have walked on the surface of the moon than have reached the deepest parts of the ocean floor (the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench of the Pacific Ocean). To be honest, only four descents have ever been achieved in this nearly 11 km deep hole in the ocean floor. Even to this day we don’t have exact measurements of its depth or what (if anything) actually lives at such depths. The secret lives of fish if you will. And why is this? Well, it may sound stupid, but for one thing, we can actually see the moon from Earth. Yes, at a very fundamental level, it is cheaper and simpler to study the surface of the moon than the bottom of the ocean. Galileo could easily examine the stars and map the surface of the moon. Examine underwater volcanoes and map the bottom of the ocean? Not so much. It’s simply a matter of accessibility.

These days, however, things are changing. There are more and more expeditions into the ocean’s depths and what they are bringing back can be quite interesting. These are 25 really deep insights into the lives of fish and other underwater creatures!
