Having a hobby is one of those things that makes your life all around better. In fact, picking up hobbies are probably one of the fastest and easiest ways to make a drastic change in your life next to moving across the world (which could also actually be a hobby). In most hobbies you will make connections with people, learn skills, and find ways to relieve stress. It is extremely critical for a person’s well being to have all of these things in their life. In fact, many psychological disorders are best remedied with hobbies. Whether that hobby is physical or mental, it is almost guaranteed to promote healthy changes in your life (disclaimer: some hobbies are obviously more dangerous than others). Having said all of that, how do you find or choose a hobby? Well, one way is to go with what interests you. If you already have a passion then your choice becomes more or less obvious. But, for the rest of us, we need a different method. What we are going to discuss today is the financial aspect. We’ll look at which hobbies you can get into with minimal investment. So get ready because these are 25 fun hobbies you can get into without spending much money!

Learn a language
This can be as easy as going to duolingo.com. It’s completely free. Furthermore, with youtube, online forums, skype, etc. it’s pretty easy to use your new language and make friends from around the world.
Learn to program
Another free thing you can do, head over to codeacademy.com and stop just going to websites…start making them!
All you need is a cheap pair of binoculars and you’ll be amazed by what you can see in the night sky.
This can be as simple as walking around but if you want to take things to the next level, look up geocaching (we’re assuming you already have a smartphone…sorry if you don’t).
You don’t need a gym to workout, try the park. All you need is some monkey bars.
We aren’t advocating for you to do illegal things. And if you live in Virginia, be aware that even owning a lock pick if you’re not a locksmith can get you in trouble. But when it comes to a cheap and challenging hobby that can potentially be useful (when you forget your key) it’s hard to compete.
Of course, this one will be easier to break into if you already have good handwriting.
Plants, seeds, fertilizer, and you’re ready!
Learn an instrument
Of course, you’ll need a guitar/piano/flute/etc. But if you can somehow borrow one of those, or build a drum set, youtube can be your best friend here
How to make a wooden horse – Start with a block of wood. Remove all wood that does not resemble a horse. Admire your horse. Seriously though, all you need for this is a knife and some wood.
Pencil, check. Paper, check. Internet tutorials, check.
If you want to check out the flip-side to cheap hobbies, check out these expensive hobbies.
A starter set of discs is about $30 and most courses are free.
All you need is a deck of cards. And the internet…as usual (but you obviously already have that).
A license for less than $20. $30 for the pole, and a few more dollars for the worms.
Um, does this need an explanation?
Of course, you’ll need to learn to solder, but once again, there’s a tutorial for that somewhere out there. Besides that, all you’ll need is some non-functioning electronics.
All you need is a yo-yo. And lots of time (which we’re assuming you have since you’re reading this)
Speed Cubing (Rubik's Cubes)
Once again, all you need is a cube.
This is one of those things that you can take to a pretty high level if you’re motivated enough.
You can juggle just about anything.
With the internet you can learn pretty much everything. Go to youtube and learn a few steps.
Take that class you always wanted to take in college but didn’t. With websites like coursera out there, ignorance is a choice.
Go to blender.org. It’s kind of like modeling in real life. Except on the computer.
These are sports you only need a ball for (and a hoop/goal, but those are usually free)
You might not believe us, but the poorer you are willing to be, the easier it gets. Hitchhike, camp, work on a ship, dumpster dive…you’ll be amazed how far you can get. As usual, do your research first i.e. use the internet.
