Schools should be one of the safest places on Earth. Tragically, over the years, many have become less safe. With bullying, hazing, school shootings, and predatorial teachers, school administrators face many horrific challenges. As a result, some parents have taken to homeschooling their kids to better educate and safeguard them from these risks. And honestly, after this list, if you’re a parent, homeschooling might sound like a great option. Ready to take a peek into the world of education? Students hacked into school system and changed grades.
Depending on your vantage point, students hacking into a school system and changing grades might either sound cool or horrifying. In this case, for the school officials, teachers, and parents of Churchill High School, it was the latter. Considered a premier school with 2,100 students that have a 98% graduation rate and some of the highest SAT scores in the country, it’s easy to see why Churchill High School officials would freak out over a security breach. But for many of the students, it can also be scary to know one of your peers has access to all of your confidential and private records.
A high school teacher was beaten repeatedly by a student.
At South Division High School, a teacher was beaten in the head repeatedly by a 16-year-old student in a classroom. Students stood around and watched the incident take place while videotaping it. The video quickly spread all over the internet.
Fraternity practiced disturbing hazing during "Hell Week."
Pledges of the Pi Alpha Nu fraternity at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh said they were horrifically hazed during their time in the frat house. During “Hell Week,” frat leaders made the pledges drink a gallon of water, wine, vinegar, and milk until they threw up. They would make the brothers throw up on top of them and even have urine thrown at them.
A boarding school in Iowa tortured teenagers.
At Midwest Academy in Keokuk, Iowa, a school for troubled teenagers, several students made claims of abysmal torture practices. School officials would keep students in small concrete isolation boxes for days and sometimes weeks. They wouldn’t let the students out unless they sat in a specific posture for 24 hours. As of 2016, the school was being investigated by the FBI.
School children in Peru suffer from a "contagious demonic possession."
At the Elsa Perea Flores School in Peru, it all started simply as 20 children becoming ill. Not long after, however, over 100 children became ill with all the same symptoms, fainting, vomiting, delirium, and frothing at the mouth. Even more troubling, they all claimed to have seen the same thing, “a tall man in black with a beard” trying to kill them. Education officials claimed it was a case of “contagious demonic possession.”
Middle school students taunt black students with racist remarks and simulating sex acts.
A video surfaced on social media of white students at Short Pump Middle School taunting, making racist remarks, and simulating sex acts on black students in a locker room. The video was sent to Snapchat with text saying, “We gonna (expletive) the black outta these African-American children from Uganda.”
Paranormal activity at Pocatello High School caught on a surveillance camera.
For years, bizarre stories have circulated around Pocatello High School, from toilets randomly flushing with no one around to stories of a librarian committing suicide by hanging from a chandelier. Investigators discovered 6 confirmed deaths happened at the school, one involving a boy drowning in a pool. But now, a video has been released of a literal dark shadowy figure leaning against the wall near the drinking fountain before going to the bathroom and heading down the hall.

At Lowndes County High School, Kendrick Johnson, a student at the school, was found dead and rolled up in gym mats. The state examiner claimed the student’s death was an accident, but after the family requested a second autopsy, they discovered his body was stuffed with newspaper. The second autopsy concluded that the boy was attacked and an FBI agent who investigated the case also claimed it looked like foul play.
Girls at a school in Kelantan, Malaysia claim to be attacked by dark spectre.
When a girl at a school in Kelantan, Malaysia claimed she was attacked and possessed by a dark spectre, gradually more and more girls came forward claiming the same thing, resulting in mass hysteria. Other schools in the area had to be closed down because of the overwhelming number of students and teachers succumbing to it.
Mom sends laxative laced cookies to teacher and the teacher distributed them around the class.
A mom of a student at Carrabec Community School in Maine helped her daughter and two other girls devise a plan to lace cookies with laxatives and give them to their teacher. They left a note that said, “We made these cookies especially for you, hope you enjoy them.” Instead, the teacher passed them out to the class and soon after, all the students became sick. The mother was arrested and ordered to 50 hours of community service.
Bullies force disabled boy out of his wheel chair and videotaped it.
At James Cook High School in New Zealand, a team of bullies recorded an incident where they forced a 10-year-old boy out of his wheelchair. The video posted on Facebook and quickly went viral. The principal commented that the situation would be dealt with “swiftly and seriously.”
Despite several children coming forward alleging abuse, this teacher kept his job.
Robert Keith Bryan had a 34-year-long career teaching at the Coachella Valley Unified and Desert Sands Unified schools despite the constant allegations against him of pedophilia, abuse, and molestation. 15 students came forward and no one listened. Officials didn’t believe them and buried their comments. Finally in 2012, after he abused 8 more students, Bryan resigned and was eventually arrested and imprisoned.
A honor student at a high school thought he drank apple juice. It was urine.
At Palm Harbor University High School, a freshman honor student drank from an apple juice bottle, and it was filled with urine. The prank came from two other freshman students. They stole the bottle from the vending machine, emptied it, and filled it up with their waste instead. They put the bottle back in the vending machine. Both were charged with a felony for poisoning.
A school custodian brutally raped and murdered a teacher at Chopticon High School.
At Chopticon High School in Maryland, teacher Beverly Jo Heater was organizing student schedules for the fall when an 18-year-old Lester Broome entered the classroom where she worked. Police later found Heater’s body 20 feet away in the girl’s bathroom. She was brutally stabbed in the neck, raped and stabbed again by Broome. A bloodstained path led the way from the classroom to the bathroom.
A student broke into a teacher's phone, found a nude selfie, and posted it online.
At Union High School, when teacher Leigh Anne Arthur left her desk, a student took her unlocked phone and found a nude selfie of her. The student proceeded to post the photo online. The teacher lost her job, and the student was charged with a felony with up to 4 years of prison time if convicted.
Three high school boy basketball players brutally raped a freshman with a pool cue.
The entire Ooltewah high school boy’s basketball team season was canceled when it came to light that three of the players had brutally raped a freshman with a pool cue. The victim’s colon and bladder were ruptured, forcing him to use a colostomy bag and catheter. The incident was also said to be recorded on video.
High school football players in Pennsylvania raped a teammate with a broomstick.
At Conestoga High School in Pennsylvania, three high school football players were charged with sodomizing a younger teammate with a broomstick. They were also accused of putting their genitals on younger boys’ heads.
Two students poisoned their teachers drink just to see what would happen.
Two students poisoned the water bottle of their teacher, Johanna Cherepany, with rat poison just to see what would happen. Fortunately, other students told their parents and the teacher was warned and sent to the doctor for treatment. The students, ages 9 and 12, were arrested and charged.
A group of girls lied about being raped by a shop teacher.
According to a statement by someone on Reddit, a group of girls devised a plan to get one girl to claim she was sexually abused by her father, the shop teacher. After claiming he raped her, all the girls backed up her statement. They all eventually confessed that it was a lie but the damage had been done.
A 15-year-old girl was gang raped on a high school campus.
After a dance at Richmond High School, 20 people were either involved or stood and watched as a 15-year-old girl was brutally gang-raped on campus. The victim later was found unconscious underneath a bench and was flown to the hospital. Only two of the 20 people had been caught at the time of the report, and authorities offered a reward for information regarding the whereabouts of others involved.

At Standley Lake High School in Colorado, Vincent Nett came into the school cafeteria early in the morning while 60 students were having breakfast. He poured a flammable liquid on his body and lit himself on fire. His flames were extinguished by a custodian, but he died of the severe burns on his body.
A student kicked a pregnant teacher in the stomach.
In the Bronx, New York, a pregnant teacher tried to break up a fight at school. She was kicked in the stomach by one of the students and fell to the ground. After being rushed to the hospital, she miscarried her 4-month-old baby.
A student in Russia killed his teacher and then committed suicide as part of a game.
In Moscow, Russia, a student named Andrey Emelyannikov slit his teacher’s throat, took a selfie with the body, and then proceeded to kill himself with a circular saw. Officials fearED it’s part of group suicide “death games” where you have to complete a series of tasks before killing yourself.
An HIV-positive teacher was arrested for raping students and videotaping it.
Carlos Bell, who was an instructional assistant at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School, was arrested for raping young boys on school premises and filming the act. He’s confessed to being infected with HIV. Seven victims have come forward, but investigators believe there could have been many more.
At Sandy Hook, 20 children were gunned down by a heavily armed shooter.
After murdering his mother, Adam Lanza gathered up several firearms and drove over to Sandy Hook Elementary school where he killed 20 children, all 6 and 7 years of age, and several teachers and staff before killing himself. The horrific shooting lasted a little less than 11 minutes.
Note: Sadly, this is not the only case of a school mass shooting in the U.S. The most recent one as of this writing happened at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida where 17 lives were lost.
