25 Largest Casinos In The World

Posted by , Updated on January 24, 2024

Curious about where the largest casinos in the world are? This might shock you, but Las Vegas is not the gambling capital of the world. In fact, its largest casino isn’t even in the top 10. Fortunately, we have Oklahoma and Connecticut to save us; otherwise, the United States wouldn’t even be on the top 10. It just goes to show that much like many other (sometimes awesome, sometimes tragic) potential addictions, the thrill of gambling is universal worldwide…and so are the people who are happy to take your money in order to give you that thrill. With that in mind, please visit these amazing places as…responsibly…as possible. Here are 25 Largest Casinos In The World.

25

Atlantis Casino & Resort – Paradise Island, Bahamas

Atlantis_Paradise_Island_Hotel_editASource: http://www.atlantisbahamas.com/

To be fair, our smallest casino on the list is still impressive by typical standards at 50,000 sq. ft. It’s also the largest casino in the Caribbean. However, the casino is just one of many impressive features of the famous Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas.

24

Gold Coast Hotel and Casino - Las Vegas, NV USA

1280px-Gold_Coast_Casino,_Las_Vegas_NVASource: http://www.goldcoastcasino.com/

The Gold Coast Hotel and Casino features 87,000 sq. ft. of gaming area, exactly one mile west of the Las Vegas Strip, where it caters more to locals than tourists. Fun fact: The Gold Coast Hotel and Casino was featured in the 1996 film “Mars Attacks!” “Ack Ack!”

23

Resorts Casino Hotel - Atlantic City, NJ USA

Resorts_Atlantic_City_-_Hotel_TowersASource: https://resortsac.com

Resorts Casino Hotel is, as the name implies, a resort consisting of a 100,000 sq. ft. casino and a hotel in Atlantic City, NJ. We’ll give them a pass on the silly name because it’s old school. This was the first legal casino in the US outside of Nevada when it opened in 1978.

22

Wynn - Las Vegas, NV USA

Las VegasSource: http://www.wynnlasvegas.com/

While “Resorts” below is no slouch, it’s safe to say that the Wynn Las Vegas is the first true, modern, mega-casino on our list. Built in 2005, directly on the strip in Paradise, NV, the Wynn features 111,000 sq. ft. of gaming space, is named one of the Top Hotels in the World by Condé Nast Traveler, and features its own Ferrari-Maserati dealership.

21

Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino - Las Vegas, NV USA

Rio_Vegas_NimaASource: https://www.caesars.com

Though originally considered another “local’s” casino located near (but not on) the Vegas Strip, Rio nonetheless developed a major tourist reputation. It’s not hard to see why when it includes 120,000 sq. ft. of gaming area, a wine cellar with over 50,000 bottles to choose from, and the venue that hosts the world series of poker every year.

20

The Venetian - Las Vegas, NV USA

The Venetian Resort Complex represents the second largest hotel in the world, and the largest resort on the Las Vegas Strip. The casino makes up 120,000 sq. ft. of gaming space and is the current home of Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler’s solo show. In between blackjack tables and slot machines, patrons can see the on-site Guggenheim Hermitage Museum housing that has literally priceless artifacts from around the world.

19

Mandalay Bay – Las Vegas, NV USA

If you watch Ultimate Fighting, you recognize Mandalay Bay on the Vegas Strip, which conveniently allows you to view high-profile events such as UFC, Boxing, and even the Miss Universe Pageant live while you’ve bet on them. With 135,000 sq. ft. of gaming space there’s plenty of other ways to spend your money. However, many guests take a break from their gaming to visit the separated, European-style pool called Moorea.

18

Caesars - Atlantic City, NJ USA

Atlantic City’s second casino ever, Caesars opened in 1979 and has expanded and renovated several times since to become the largest casino in Atlantic City. It now features 145,000 sq. ft. of gaming area along with an 1100-seat theater venue that has hosted legendary acts such as Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, Mary J. Blige, and Celine Dion.

17

Aria – Las Vegas, NV USA

After opening in 2009 on the Las Vegas Strip, Aria was praised by Popular Mechanics as possibly the most technologically advanced hotel ever built. The smart rooms automatically adjust curtains, turn off lights, and regulate electronics when guests are away to minimize wasted energy. With 150,000 sq. ft. of gaming area and all that technology, it makes a lot of sense that Aria was the featured casino in the 2013 film Now You See Me.

16

The Bellagio - Las Vegas, NV USA

Partially thanks to being featured in the remake of Ocean’s 11, Bellagio is what most people imagine when you mention the Las Vegas Strip. It combines class and beauty with lots of energy. When it opened in 1998, it was the most expensive hotel ever built. In addition to the iconic water show, there is 155,000 sq. ft. of gaming area with a high-stakes poker room preferred by poker greats in which pots frequently exceed a million dollars.

15

Resorts World Sentosa - Singapore, Thailand

Resorts_World_SentosaSource: https://www.casino.org

Singapore Casinos really, really want to be bigger, but the country has capped gaming areas at 160,000 sq. ft. With that said, holding the 14th and 15th spot on the top 25 list, and being third in overall gaming revenue in the world is nothing to be ashamed of. In addition, when built, this resort was the third most expensive in the world and includes its very own Universal Studios Singapore!

14

Marina Bay Sands – Singapore, Thailand

Marina_bay_sands_night_skypark_2010ASource: https://www.marinabaysands.com

Naturally, The Marina Bay Sands had one major objective when it was built: outclass Singapore’s other major casino. It does not disappoint. Though Universal Studios is hard to compete with, Marina Bay Sands adds to its 160,000 sq. ft. of gaming space with an extremely unique building that’s topped off with a literal “Sky Park.” Towering over 600 feet above Singapore, this park has trees, grass, plants, gardens, fine dining, and a massive custom infinity pool that lets you look out over the edge at panoramic views of the city below.

13

The Borgata - Atlantic City, NJ USA

BorgataASource: https://www.theborgata.com

As a relatively successful attempt to revive Atlantic City gaming, the gold-glass clad Borgata opened in 2003 and was the first new casino in well over a decade. Featuring just over Singapore-sized gaming (161,000 sq. ft. – tell me that’s not on purpose), celebrity gourmet dining, and a concert venue with exceptionally good acoustics that attracts very big-name acts, the Borgata has everything it needs to be the signature casino of Atlantic City.

12

MGM Grand - Las Vegas, NV USA

LasVegas-MGMgrandASource: https://www.mgmgrand.com

Spoiler: This is the last Vegas casino on this list. Fortunately, it’s a pretty solid representation. The MGM Grand (also featured in Ocean’s 11) is the largest single hotel in the United States and includes 171,500 sq. ft. of gaming space. In addition, it often hosts high profile championship boxing matches at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and nightly shows by the world-renowned illusionist David Copperfield.

11

Casino Lisboa (葡京娛樂場) - Macau, China

And so we reach our first casino in Macau, China. This is the only part of China in which casinos are legal. Much of its special administrative status is a result of Hong Kong Billionaire and gambling enthusiast Stanley Ho. As an example of how insane the industry has become, Casino Lisboa has 18,500 more sq. ft. of gaming area than the Las Vegas Strip’s largest casino (and this is the smallest Macau casino on our list!)

10

Wynn Macau (永利澳門渡假村) - Macau, China

Macau_Wynn_No_Smoking_Mo707ASource: https://en.wikipedia.org

Not to be outdone by Stanley Ho, Steve Wynn took the lead as chairman and introduced the Wynn Macau to the legions of Chinese and tourist gamblers. With 205,000 sq. ft. of gaming space, over 1000 guest rooms, and priceless Qing dynasty vases on display in the lobby, the Wynn Macau had no trouble attracting a loyal following.

9

Crown Casino – Melbourne, Australia

And then there’s Australia. In comparison, Australia’s gambling industry is relatively small. However, the Crown Casino in Melbourne is the largest casino complex in the Southern Hemisphere and is the envy of many of its northern competitors. In addition to over 220,000 sq. ft. of gaming area, 1604 guest rooms accommodate regular celebrity guests such as Nicole Kidman, Katy Perry, and Tiger Woods.

8

MGM Macau (美高梅) - Macau, China

508px-MGM_Grand,_Macao,_2013-08-08,_DD_14ASource: https://www.worldcasinodirectory.com/

The striking, tri-color tower that houses the MGM Macau contains 222,000 sq. ft. of gaming space. That number is set to go up in the near future (by 47,000 sq. ft.!!) as an expansion was announced to compete with a similar expansion put in motion by the Wynn Macau. Post-expansion MGM would jump up to number 6 on our list.

7

Sands Macao (金沙娛樂場) - Macau, China

1280px-Sands_Macau_2009ASource: http://www.sandsmacao.com/

At $240 million, the Sands Macao was not cheap to build. However, the casino was so successful it was able to pay off that debt in one year. A year later, an expansion made it the largest Casino in the world. Of course, the casino world is always shooting for bigger and better, so that didn’t last. However, the Sands remains one of the premier entertainment and gambling destinations in Macau.

6

Rio Casino Resort – Klerksdorp, South Africa

rio_casino_klerksdorpSource: https://www.casino.org

Though some argue that the Crown Casino (number 9 on our list) is larger, there’s a technicality involved. Crown has a much larger complex, but its designated gaming area is over 46,000 sq. ft. smaller, making the Rio Casino easily the largest casino in the southern hemisphere (and the African continent).

5

Casino Ponte 16 (十六浦) - Macau, China

Sofitel_Macau_At_Ponte_16ASource: https://www.casino.org

Another of Macau, China’s massive gambling complexes, Casino Ponte features 270,000 sq. ft. of gambling space. Unique even to Macau was its dedicated Michael Jackson museum, which, among other things, housed the famous rhinestone glove he wore. The display has since moved on, but Casino Ponte is still known as the Michael Jackson Casino.

4

Foxwoods Resort and Casino - Mashantucket, CT - USA

Foxwoods_Resort_CasinoASource: https://www.foxwoods.com/

Yep, one of the two American casinos to make the top ten is located not on the Las Vegas Strip, but in Mashantucket, Connecticut. We’re also getting into the insane territory here with 344,000 sq. ft. of gaming area. The casino is so vast that it’s divided up into six themed sub-casinos. Also featured on the property are a Hard Rock Café and an entertainment venue whose current lineup includes Sarah Silverman, Amy Schumer, Alicia Keys, and Idina Menzel.

3

City of Dreams (新濠天地) - Macau, China

1024px-The_City_of_Dreams_200907ASource: https://www.cityofdreamsmacau.com/

A literal multi-phase complex that truly is it’s own city, the City of Dreams is the sort of place that a high roller could get lost in for years – if not forever! Featuring an insane 420,000 sq. ft. of gaming space, the complex is supplemented by 1,400 hotel rooms (with more planned next year), permanent apartments, it’s own Hard Rock Café, several other dining options, and a custom water show in a theater featuring one of the largest commercial pools in the world.

2

Winstar World Casino - Thackerville, OK - USA

WinStar_World_Casino_1Source: http://www.trendir.com/

The largest casino in the US and what was once the largest casino in the world is the only American casino to give Macau a run for its money. This massive, sprawling city of gambling sin is located in…Thackerville, OK?! Fortunately, with over half a million sq. ft. of gaming area surround by over 1500 hotel rooms, a full PGA-designed golf course, a bull riding arena, and every dining establishment from Panda Express to Capisce Ristorante Italiano, Winstar is the only reason you need to go.

1

The Venetian Macao (澳門威尼斯人度假村酒店) - Macau, China

The_Venetian_Macao_The_Great_HallSource: https://www.worldcasinodirectory.com/

Despite its name, The Venetian Macao is also located in Macau, China, which we’re sure you’ve figured out really is the gambling capital of the world. When it was finished in 2007, it unseated the United States and the Winstar as the largest in the world with a whopping 550,000 sq. ft. of gaming area. Though it pales in comparison to the rest of the resort, the gambling area is so large it’s divided into four themed gaming areas: Imperial House, Golden Fish, Phoenix, and Red Dragon. Basically, it’s the Disneyland of the gambling world. Ante up!
